Howdy!

Thank you for stopping by the web site and our hope is that you love acoustic music as much as we do! Based in the greater Houston area, we're a Texas Bluegrass band with members from all walks of life sharing a common purpose - preserving music from a bygone era while entertaining people of all ages.

While Bluegrass standards from the likes of Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley are in our repertoire, we also enjoy performing songs from second and third generation bands within the genre. In addition to this - old time country, western swing and Americana tunes will find their way onto the set list.

We hope you'll take a few minutes to explore our web site and learn more about our history, places we've been, our style of music and other organizations that we support. In addition to this web site, we maintain a presence on FaceBook and encourage you to "like" our page and post comments there.

What's New...

9-Jun-2017 The Roosters would like to wish Doctor Phil and his lovely bride Brandy all the best as they pack up the covered wagon and head back east to Pennsyltucky at the end of the month.

Doctor Phil has accepted a professorship at Penn State and while we're all sad to see him retire from The Roosters... we know that one day - they'll return to the Republic of Texas! You'll have two more opportunities to hear his fine picking and singing including: 9-Jun-2017 at the Local Bakery in Lake Jackson at 6pm and 17-Jun-2017 at the Bay Area Bluegrass show in League City at 8pm. Take time to stop by and wish Phil and Brandy all the best as they set sail on a new adventure.

In the meantime.... here is Doctor Phil doing what he does best:

28-Jan-2017 We had a great time playing the fourth Saturday show at the Coushatte Park Ranch near Bellville, Texas produced by The Texas Bluegrass Music Association. In addition to performing on stage, it was wonderful visiting with old friends and jamming on the grounds. Many thanks to Colee Biller-Littlefield, Scott Armstrong and all of the other fine volunteers that make this event possible. They were kind enough to video a few of our tunes and here is one for your enjoyment - the rest can be seen on "Our Music" tab.

28-Jan-2017 The Roosters would like to welcome Mike Johnson to the band and we look forward to our first gig with him at the fourth Saturday show near Bellville in the Coushatte, RV park. We met Mike at the Fayetteville second Saturday jam last spring and he's been working in with us for the past few weeks. Please make him feel welcome next you see us on stage!

7-May-2016 The first weekend in May found us playing in Fayetteville, TX for the annual Art Walk festival hosted by the Arts for Rural Texas organization. The weather was perfect, we had a great time and we'd like to thank Tom Duplissey for arranging our appearance. The Roosters are pictured below in the gazebo on town square - with a special appearance by Doug Burtchael on guitar as our regular mandolin player - Doctor Phil - had a schedule conflict.

5-Mar-2016 We had a grande time playing the monthly show in Pearl, TX (about 20 miles west of Gatesville) and this is something fans and pickers alike need to experience. Along with our friends "Southern Style," we arrived on Friday afternoon and were honored to perform as the featured band on Saturday. This event draws talent from central Texas and beyond - not to mention the most appreciative audience in the Lone Star state! We'd like to say thanks again to Sue and Fred Knorre and all the other fine volunteers that make this monthly "mini festival" so much fun!

2-Aug-2015 The Roosters would like to congratulate our mandolin player Phil and his lovely bride Brandy on the recent arrival of their first child June Renee! Doctor Phil missed practice last Thursday to assist with the proceedings and June Renee arrived on 31-July-2015 tipping the scales at 6lbs 2oz. The band is already laying odds on what stringed instrument she'll take up in the years ahead.

demo-cd

1-Aug-2015 This past April, we spent some time at the Red Shack studio in Houston creating a demonstration CD that contains some of our better tunes. In spite of high water in the studio over the Memorial Day weekend, Rock Ramono soldiered on and recently provided us with a final mix for use on the web site and beyond. Please take a moment to check out some of the tracks under "Our Music" tab.
